Microsoft Nearing Settlement of Major Antitrust Case Involving Cloud Technology
Microsoft may finally be reaching the end of its antitrust case, which accused the tech giant of using unfair practices and terms that made it difficult and costly for cloud users to switch to a competitor. Bloomberg reports that Microsoft is working towards settling the case by improving its licensing terms, which it revised in the latter half of last year. The report also states that Microsoft is close to reaching a settlement with three companies that had raised the challenge, namely France’s OVHcloud, Italy’s Aruba SpA, and the Danish Cloud Community. As part of the settlement, these companies would suspend their antitrust complaints to the European Commission.
\Reuters reports that Microsoft has offered a concrete proposal to change cloud computing practices to address the complaints. TechRadar Pro has reached out to the European Commission, Microsoft, and the three companies for further comment on the settlement. Aruba and the Danish Cloud Community declined to comment, while the other parties did not immediately respond to the request. CISPE, which includes Aruba as a member along with AWS and other IaaS providers, said that it was not involved in the settlement and had not seen any evidence of changes to ensure fair competition.
