Bank of America Customers Face Temporary Account Access Issues
Many Bank of America customers were met with an unwelcome message: “Accounts temporarily unavailable.” This glitch left customers unable to access their account balances, adding to a week of high-profile outages across multiple platforms, including Spotify, Verizon, and PlayStation.
Some Bank of America users reported that their accounts were showing a balance of $0 or “—-” instead of the correct amounts. However, for some, any outstanding debts or negative balances still appeared correctly.
In response to the incident, Matt Card, Bank of America’s media relations executive, said in an email to The Verge, “Some mobile and online banking clients experienced an issue accessing their accounts and balance information earlier today. These technology issues have been fully resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Outage reports surged on DownDetector with posts on X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit flooding in as customers voiced concerns about missing account information. Despite these problems, some users reported intermittent access to their accounts later in the day.
By the afternoon, the bank’s app displayed a message stating that “Some accounts and/or balances are temporarily unavailable.” According to CNN’s earlier report, these issues had been affecting customers, but it remains unclear how widespread the outage was.
Bank of America, which serves 58 million clients through its digital services, said it connected with customers a record 23.4 billion times last year, underscoring the importance of its online and mobile platforms in managing customers’ financial activities.
