Hackers Leak Personal Information of U.S. Federal Officials

A well-known hacker group has released the personal information of hundreds of U.S. government officials. The leaked data includes names, phone numbers, email addresses, and even home addresses belonging to employees from several major federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The hackers, who call themselves “the Com,” along with a subgroup named “Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters,” posted large spreadsheets online containing this information. The lists reportedly included details for hundreds of officials from multiple federal departments.

In one of their online messages, the group made comments referencing Mexican cartels, seemingly mocking rumors that cartels were paying money for personal information about government agents. The post suggested that the hackers were taunting both the public and the authorities.

It’s still unclear how the hackers gained access to the information. Experts believe the data could have come from a mix of older data breaches and possibly new security weaknesses in government systems.

Cybersecurity specialists have warned that such leaks can put federal employees at serious risk. When personal information becomes public, it can be used for scams, harassment, or even threats to physical safety.

So far, the government agencies involved have not provided many details about the incident, and the hackers have hinted that they might target additional agencies in the future.
