Logistics Giant Expeditors International Faces Global Operations Disruption in Cyberattack
On Sunday, logistics company Expeditors International, headquartered in Seattle, Washington, announced that it had been hit by a cyberattack that had disrupted its global systems. The Fortune 500 company reported that most of its operating systems had been shut down, and its customers had been informed that their operations had been impacted.
The company referred to it as a targeted cyberattack but provided no further information. However, based on the description given, it may have been a ransomware attack. Expeditors International is a service-based company that provides logistics solutions in more than 100 countries through a network of over 350 locations. It offers transportation, supply chain performance, warehousing, and customs services. Ransomware attacks can have a significant impact on companies of all sizes, resulting in revenue loss, time and resources, and failure to meet contractual obligations.
Nasser Fattah, North America Steering Committee Chair at Shared Assessments, recommends ransomware tabletop exercises to understand strengths and weaknesses in defending against and remediating ransomware.
