Pwn2Own 2023 sees successful hacks of Windows 11, Tesla, Ubuntu, and macOS
Security researchers have successfully hacked Tesla Model 3, Windows 11, macOS, Ubuntu Desktop, Oracle VirtualBox, and Microsoft’s SharePoint team collaboration platform at the Pwn2Own Vancouver 2023 competition. The competition is divided into several categories, including enterprise applications, enterprise communications, local escalation of privilege, server, virtualization, and automotive. The hacks demonstrated during the competition have earned contestants a total of $375,000 and a Tesla Model 3 car. The vulnerabilities exploited will be disclosed to the vendors, who have 90 days to develop security fixes before the Zero Day Initiative discloses them publicly. The competition will continue for three days, with competitors attempting to hack Microsoft Teams, VMware Workstation, and other targets. Last year, Pwn2Own Vancouver saw researchers earn $1,155,000 after successfully hacking Windows 11, Ubuntu Desktop, Microsoft Teams, and other software.
