Reportedly, Sony is developing a portable PlayStation device that excludes cloud gaming
According to recent reports, Sony is said to be developing a new portable PlayStation device codenamed “Q Lite,” which will not incorporate cloud gaming but rather stream games from a nearby PlayStation 5 console using Sony’s “Remote Play” feature. The device, which is currently in its final testing stages, is rumored to feature an 8-inch 1080p LCD touchscreen and support games at up to 60fps, with haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, speakers, an audio jack, and volume buttons like the DualSense controller of the PlayStation 5.
The handheld may be released before the anticipated “PlayStation 5 Pro,” expected in 2024, as part of Sony’s “second phase of the PS5,” which includes a new PS5 model with a detachable disc drive, new wireless earphones, and a new wireless headset. While Sony has never heavily promoted its cloud gaming offerings, the possibility of a handheld device requiring an expensive console seems unusual, and offering both cloud gaming and Remote Play may be more appealing to a wider audience.
