My Cloud service affected as Western Digital reveals network breach

Western Digital has reported a security breach that resulted in an unauthorized party gaining access to multiple systems. The California-based computer drive maker and data storage services provider said in a press release that the network security incident was discovered on March 26. The company has initiated an investigation with the help of outside security and forensic experts, and is working with law enforcement authorities. Based on initial evidence, the company believes that the intruder may have accessed some company data.

In response to the incident, Western Digital has implemented additional security measures, which may affect some of its services. My Cloud, the company’s network-attached storage (NAS) service, has been experiencing an outage since the breach. The company’s status page reports that the issue is affecting My Cloud, My Cloud Home, My Cloud Home Duo, My Cloud OS5, SanDisk ibi, and SanDisk Ixpand Wireless Charger. An update from Western Digital is expected later today.
